American F-22 Raptor

The F-22A Raptor is an Air-Superiority fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed and developed by Lockheed Martin. It is considered as the best Fighter Aircraft in the world , because of extreme stability, advanced stealth, good maneuverability and supercruise.

The Raptor was designed primarily as Air-Superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities that include ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence.

In 1981 the USAF developed a requirement for a new air superiority fighter, the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) to replace the aging F-15 Eagle. The ATF was a demonstration and validation program undertaken by the USAF to develop a next-generation air superiority fighter to counter emerging worldwide threats, including the development and proliferation of Soviet-era Su-27 Flanker-class fighter aircraft. In 1986 a request was proposed and two contractor teams, Lockheed/Boeing/General Dynamics and Northrop/McDonald Douglas were selected in October 1986 to under take a 50-month demonstration/validation phase, culminating in flight test of two prototypes, the YF-22 and the YF-23. On April 23,1991 the USAF ended the design and test flight competition by announcing Lockheed's YF-22 as the winner. It was anticipated at the time that 650 aircraft would be ordered. 147 have been built as of September '09, Out of 189 planned.

In Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. SeriesEdit

The Raptor made a full appearence in both HAWX 1 and HAWX 2.

Air to Air Specialization - Specializes in air-to-air combat/dog fighting/will lock-on bogeys faster.
Fast Recovery - Recovers from stalls faster than a normal plane would recover.
Stealth - Gives enemy a harder time to lock on you.
Stable - Enters stall slowly.
Thrust Vectoring - Engine nozzles that move in different directions that give the plane better manueverability without stalling.
Electronic Warfare - Ability to use target overwrite pod in versus.
